Tell Me Why Does it Have to Be Like This?

In 2003, then ten-year-old, Declan Galbraith, recorded a song that asks the question: "Tell Me Why Does it Have to Be Like This?"

The artwork here depicts a woman sitting beside her husband's body. He is a Falun Gong practitioner tortured to death for his belief. Why does it have to be like this?

On December 9, 2002, the largest choir in history, drawn from all parts of the UK and Ireland joined Declan Galbraith to sing 'Tell Me Why' for a Guinness World Record. To hear the song as originally recorded, please go to:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhK36tIJqsY

The Lyrics to the song "Tell Me Why"

In my dreams children sing
A song of love for every boy and girl
The sky is blue the fields are green
And laughter is the language of the world
Then I wake and all I see is a world full of people in need

Tell me why, does it have to be like this
Tell me why, is there something I have missed
Tell me why, cause I don't understand
When so many need somebody
We don't give a helping hand
Tell me why

Every day I ask myself what will I have to do to be a man
Do I have to stand and fight
To prove to everybody who I am
Is that what my life is for
To waste in a world full of war

Tell me why, does it have to be like this
Tell me why, is there something I have missed
Tell me why, cause I don't understand
When so many need somebody
We don't give a helping hand
Tell me why
Tell me why
Tell me why
Just tell me why

Why why, do the tiders run
Why why, do we shoot the gun
Why why, do we never learn
Can someone tell us why we cannot just be friends
Why Why.

Over the years I have seen my fellow Americans lose sight of our core values. When it comes to how China treats its citizens, we look the other way. From Christians to Falun Gong, from Tibet to Xinjiang, from Tiananmen Square to the Olympics, and from those who take a stand against corruption to ...
